I am thoroughly enjoying this series as it is a way for me to have countless accountability partners across the globe waiting patiently for me to share my weekly update…or at least I’d like to think you all are waiting patiently. :)
If you haven’t been keeping up with the journey, I highly encourage you to pause for a moment to check out the first two posts in the series before moving along to read this one.

Okay…now that we’re all on the same page…
I’m going to take a moment to pat myself on the back! Seriously, y’all! This past week was amazing. Sharing this journey with you all has made me significantly more mindful of my actions (or lack thereof). I wake up with more focus and excitement each and every weekday knowing that I am challenging myself to do better. The weekends are a different story, but that’s neither here nor there at the moment.
I am truly creating new habits and look forward to keeping this momentum going through the end of the month…and beyond.
Let’s jump into this week’s update…
Monday - 7,554
Tuesday - 6,106
Wednesday - 6,971
Thursday - 6,175
Friday - 10,140!!!! (thanks to a trip to Ikea)
This is a major increase from my old norm of somewhere between 4,500 and 5,500 steps per day. It’s very easy to get stuck in a rut of not moving and staying firmly planted at your desk during the workday when you work from home.
Now that I am mindful of it, I am constantly thinking about ways to keep moving. I move around when I’m talking on the phone. No quick movements that would cause me to lose my breath, but movements nonetheless.
I continue to dance my behind off now that I have my 90s dance music playlist from Amazon. I plug the Fire Stick from my bedroom into the back of the tv in my office and take periodic dance breaks. I’m almost certain that I look like a complete nut sometimes, but who’s watching?
I really slacked off this past week with more formal exercising like yoga and squats so I’m going to focus a bit more on that this coming week. I’ll keep the goals simple and attainable. I may need the help of a battle buddy (yes, I was in the Army) to help me get on track and stay on track.
I’m actually starting to become used to it. I sometimes reach for a pair of sweats to throw on to take the little one to school, but I immediately get fully dressed (with a smile) when I get home. Most days this past week, though, I started my day with jeans and a shirt…and my fuzzy socks, of course. :)
I'm thinking it's time to take this self-care challenge another step and incorporate some form of wellness like a massage or facial...even if it's an in-home practice. I will give this some thought throughout the week and hopefully take action sooner than later.
Isolation is NOT an Option - I am so proud of myself. I’m a homebody. There’s no sugarcoating it! It really is what it is. I haven’t always been this way, though. There was a time when…
On second thought…not every back-in-the-day story needs to be shared on the blog. Lol!
So let’s recap my social activity over the past week.
I went to a Super Bowl party that was really unplanned. I didn’t have a dog in the fight, but I rooted for the Falcons in a room that was split about 50/50. It was great to get out of the house and talk crap about a sport I haven’t watched in forever. Lol!
We also went to a community event this past week where a magician wowed us (…or not) with his entry-level “tricks.” It was a chance to get out in the community and start shaking hands and kissing babies.
I’m looking forward to a new Meetup event this coming weekend to meet even more local parents and give the little one an opportunity to possibly make a new friend or two.
My weekly routine has changed a bit now that the little one is back in gymnastics. With that said, I have taken the time to create a command center that is working well for us so far. It has reduced the hectic mornings and sometimes frustrating evenings.
Stay tuned for a full blog post with the details. I’m so excited to see it come together after spending months on Pinterest getting ideas.
The progress continues and I realize this will be a weekly test to see if I can stay focused on healthier habits. I’ve heard from a few of you who are taking the journey with me and I’m super pumped! Continue to share your progress with me and feel free to drop a note in the Comments section below.
