In that post I openly admitted to having issues with self-care and isolation. These two have been an ongoing struggle for me since I started working from home over five years ago and I have done very little on a consistent basis to address either one of them. With that said, I am well aware of the need to be mindful of all three areas, so my hope is to spend the month of February creating new habits.
Several days into a new focus on being a healthier woman, mom, and work-from-home employee and I am making quite a bit of progress.
I received the community newsletter on Thursday and noticed the same discount exercise classes I’ve seen in previous months. I actually decided to act on it this time, though. I promptly picked up the phone and called to sign up for the yoga class that evening in the community center.
The instructor is a 68-yr old titan who teaches everything from yoga to Zumba to swimming and so much more. WOW! I haven’t taken a yoga class in quite some time so I was insanely rusty and my body ached the next evening. I’m already ready for another dose, though!
In addition to yoga this past week, I spent about 20 minutes one morning dancing my behind off. I found an awesome playlist on Amazon Music thanks to my Fire Stick and I couldn’t stop moving to dance music from the 90s. I had to pat myself on the back for making calorie-burning so fun!
Last, but not least, I knocked out some serious squats while doing the laundry and increased my step count by taking several steps back and forth from the laundry room to the bedrooms to drop off small loads of clothes as they were folded. Yes, I fold as I take our clothes out of the dryer because I don’t do that ironing thing at all!
I actually put clothes on three days this week! Not quite what I’d hoped for, but it’s progress. Let me just clarify something here because I don’t want you all to get the wrong idea. I don’t work in my pajamas. I’m not saying I haven’t, but I don’t make that a habit. There have been a few times when I was under the weather and was too stubborn to take the day off so I rolled out of bed into the office with my plaid pjs.
Moving right along…
I have been wearing sweatpants to work quite a bit and I blame it on the weather, but “getting dressed” for me involves actually putting on a nice t-shirt with my yoga pants. Once in a blue moon, I actually put on jeans and a shirt. Never business casual! Never a full suit! That’s just not necessary and it creates a dry cleaning bill when there really doesn’t need to be one.
I don’t know if you all understand just how excited I am about this. I remember my dad telling me many years ago that I needed to get a life. As a matter of fact, it was about 20 years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday.
I am very much an introvert and I find myself making my home so comfortable and loving my own company so much that I could really spend an unhealthy amount of time within these walls. Social interaction, however, is a crucial part of life as you recall from last week.
While I’ve made great progress with putting together an activity schedule for this month, there’s still more to be done. I will spend some time this week planning out some quarterly workshops. I already have one on my calendar and that’s the Choose Your Vibe Workshop, but that won’t happen until the 3rd quarter. Feel free to shoot me a note with any suggestions you might have or drop it in the Comment section below for all to see.
And before you go…are we connected yet? Of course I’m all over social media, but make sure you’re signed up for the weekly newsletter, too, by clicking HERE!
As always, wishing you nothing but the best…
